We celebrated my birthday two weeks ago and while everyone sang me "Happy Birthday", Ethan looked right at me and called me a loser.
Dion first heard sounds coming from the attic about a month ago, but no one believed her, in fact we made fun of her for it. About 3 weeks ago I heard it one morning and I was like, "What is that?". She calmly replied, "That's the noise I told you about a long time ago you @#%#$!!!" We have looked up in the attic and have found no droppings, no sign of animal infestation; I have left cat food out in the garage overnight, and it was untouched the next day. As I write this post I can hear the "monster" doing its growling thing. Could it be a racoon, opossum, giant grasshopper, or chupacabra???
The picture above is Sam and Fabe looking for the beast after it got really loud one morning 2 weeks ago. Click on it for a recording of the mysterious noises.
City of Heroes is addicting. It is an MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game). That means you play with people from all over the country/world. In COH you pick your hero-type: blaster, defender, controller, scrapper, and tanker; then pick your powerset. You design your character to look basically like anything you want. There are literally thousands and thousands of possible permutations with the character creator. After that you're ready to kill bad guys, gain experience points and influence and continue to reach higher and higher levels gaining powers and enhancements along the way. It's a very very cool game with easy to learn controls and fun teamplay. I've spent around 130 hours playing since May 6th. You can see my characters here. The first two are my main characters, the third is one I made for fun.
There's not much going on right now. I've lost 16-17 pounds since the last week of March. I've started to incorporate HEB's version of Slimfast, Healthy Shake, into my diet. Scrubs just aired its season finale, it's a really funny show. That's pretty much all I've got, so here's a picture of Andrew juggling some foam HEB fruit.
I saw two great movies this weekend. The first was Dawn of the Dead, the second was Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Dawn was a very cool, very scary, action-filled movie, which happens to have zombies in it. It is not a "zombie movie", those movies are not good, this one is. Those movies have bad special effects, and are often so bad you can laugh at them. That does not apply to this Dawn of the Dead, which is based off the original Dawn of the Dead by George Romero made in 1978. If you want a kick-ass/sometimes scary action movie, go see this one.
Eternal Sunshine is simply the greatest movie I have ever seen. I've already seen it twice, and I'm not sure I'll ever get tired of watching it. I can't even put into words what it was like seeing it the first time, it was more of an experience to be had than a film to be watched. The only thing I can compare it to is sky-diving, which is an experience that cannot be relayed in words, it won't do it justice, you've just gotta do it. The film's premise is that Jim Carrey goes to this clinic to have all of his memories of Kate Winslet erased from his mind. The story itself is straightforward enough, but the greatness of the movie comes from the writer, Charlie Kaufman, and the director Michel Gondry. Kaufman has written three awesome movies; Adaptation, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, and Being John Malkovich. While those had great directors, Gondry does an outstanding job of shooting the story exactly the way it needed to be shot. I had expected the movie to be good, but not as good as it is.
I really hurt myself this time. I lost my footing on Dion and Megan's bunk bed on Monday.
I fell back onto the desk corner, which scraped some skin off my back. It also knocked the wind out of me, and flipped me over. As I fell onto the floor face first now, my left ankle slammed into the bottom slats of the bed, causing some nice soreness for later. I can ski blues all over Taos, but I can't exit a bunk bed. Yes, all of this happened because I'm a moron. Check out my Super Bowl pics!
I've finally got all my pictures from Christmas through the ski trip in my photo albums. They're all conveniently located on the left side of the screen. I have some video clips as well, so beware modem users, it'll take some time for those to download.
Andrew and I just watched Tin Cup. He owns it, but I'd never seen it, and it's awesome. You don't have to be a Kevin Costner fan to enjoy this movie, just don't let him turn you off of it. It's got Don Johnson, Rene Russo, and Cheech Marin supporting, and they all do a terrific job.
Costner plays Roy "Tin Cup" McAvoy, a "driving range" pro; Marin is Romeo, his best friend; Johnson plays David Sims, his golf pro rival for life, and Russo is Molly, Sims' girlfriend and Tin Cup's new object of desire. The film has hilariously outrageous scenes showcasing the rivalry between McAvoy and Sims, as well as great dialogue and chemistry between Cup and Romeo. This is Rene Russo's second best role she's ever had, the first being Karen Flores in Get Shorty.
If you're looking for a light, funny comedy I definitely recommend this movie.
I thought I'd tell ya'll about two delicious meals I've tried recently, and a couple old favorites. The first new meal is simple. It's one box of macaroni and cheese mixed with a half pound of ground beef. It's basically Hamburger Helper, but it's really cheap to make and tastes great. The other new meal was something I had for dinner tonight. It's found on the frozen aisle in the grocery stores and it's called Chicken Voila!. It comes in a variety of flavors and only takes 10 minutes to make. I had the Three Cheese Chicken tonight. I also bought the Teriyaki Chicken.
The two old favorites are snacks rather than meals. The first is to buy a box of Gerber's Mixed Grain Cereal. I'm sure it would work with the other two varieties, but I've always used mixed grain. Pour the flakes into a bowl, add 4-5 spoonfuls of sugar, then add water or milk (I prefer milk) until cereal has reached the desired consistency. If you've done it right, you'll end up with a sweet, cold, porridge-type snack. It is very delicious. Lastly, my other snack idea is very easy. It's called Doughnut Toast. My uncle Rob introduced it to me. (He's on the left) You take a glazed doughnut and cut it in half, then butter it and microwave it for 20-30 seconds. Now you've got a warm, soft, buttered, sweet snack. None of these are very healthy I'm sure, but they do taste great.
Check out this compilation of various things Rome has said about the Aggies from time to time. I think Andrew brought it to my attention.
